Discover the Hidden Highlands of Eastern Bhutan
Explore remote mountain trails, pristine valleys, traditional villages, and the unique culture of the Brokpa people on an unforgettable Eastern Bhutan trekking adventure.
The Journey
Where Mountains Meet Ancient Traditions
The Merak Sakteng Trek takes you far beyond Bhutan’s well-traveled routes into the remote landscapes of eastern Bhutan. Within the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, the trail winds through peaceful forests, alpine meadows, untouched valleys, and spectacular Himalayan scenery.
One of the highlights of the journey is discovering the distinctive Brokpa communities of Merak and Sakteng, whose traditional way of life remains closely connected to the mountains. Walk through remote villages, encounter yak-herding communities, and experience a culture shaped by generations of life in Bhutan’s highlands.
As the trail unfolds, enjoy breathtaking mountain views, diverse wildlife, and the quiet beauty of one of Bhutan’s least-explored regions. The 18-day Merak Sakteng Trek is ideal for travelers seeking more than a conventional trekking adventure—a journey combining remote wilderness, living culture, authentic village experiences, and the timeless traditions of Eastern Bhutan.
